Different forms of Special Education

Every school offers some sort of special education program for kids who have learning disabilities. These schools use different approaches to providing services to identified students. These can be broken up into 4 different but broad categories, based on whether or how much contact the specials need student has with non-disabled students. Inclusion: This is when a student with special education needs; spend most if not all their time with students without the need of special education. This is usually suggested for select students with mild to moderate special needs. Several countries in the world have systems for children and adults with special needs. Each is different though many are comparable to the United States’ system. South Africa provides modified accommodations for each child, depending on that child’s personal needs. Japan places their children with special needs in one of four schools, including resource rooms and special schools. In which school a child is placed depends on his or her disabilities. The grading system is different in each school though the goal for educational advancement is the same. Australia has an association that requires children with special needs to be treated equally to other children in regards to education. The teachers of special education are very distinctive people. Those desiring to work in this field are most often required to have certain personality characteristics, including patience, motivation, organized, acceptance, and understanding. The proper training is also required. Each state has its own requirements for special education teachers. Some require on a bachelor’s degree, while others require master’s degrees. A majority of universities and colleges in the United States offer special education teaching programs. Most of these are only four-year programs, though some include a fifth year. Asperger Symptoms

Asperger’s syndrome is characterized by social abilities and social demonstrations. The lack of empathy is characteristic that is often noted. Those with Asperger’s often have difficulty making friends due to their socially awkward natures. Physical symptoms include impairment in nonverbal behavior, off facial expressions, hunched posture, odd gesturing, and lack of eye contact. Despite these characteristics, sufferers are not withdrawn, though they may be quiet. Normally those who suffer from Asperger’s can lead relatively normal lives, as they become dedicated to aspects of their interest. Professions often do not include areas were social interaction is of high demand. Chosen professions are often repetitive and restrictive. Special Education: from the Beginning

Special education programs did not always used to be mandatory in the United States. Prior to 1975 there were not state-funded programs in relation to children with special needs. In the two decades prior to the 1970s family associations would often form to advocate the rights of these children. Soon the Federal government started creating funding and programs as well as services development to provide assistance for these families. Soon two laws were created for the professional training for children with mental retardation. The 1961 Teachers of the Deaf Act required training for teachers of the deaf. The year 1965 brought two more laws in relation to funding towards educating disabled children. Two more law followed prior to the passing of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975.
