| Secretary Beard Visits Albion Work Site | ||
|
This kind of project is an excellent way for our inmates to give something back to the community. Additionally, the skills learned will allow them to acquire meaningful employment upon release and greatly enhance their chance for success. This has a direct, positive impact on public safety. Jeffrey A. Beard, Ph.D, Secretary PA Department of Corrections |

Photo by Bill Barr Above: Tim Moore, Project Instructor; Mary Smith, Homeowner; Secretary Beard; OOR CReW trainee. This is a
case of people and organizations coming together at the right time. Mrs.
Smith qualified for funding through the Crawford County Planning
Commission’s Home Program.
Quick action by Jack Lynch, Planning Director, Lynne Kardosh,
Assistant Planner and Jody Sperry, Housing Rehabilitation
Specialist paved the way. By late November Instructor Tim Moore,
Aide Travis Black and OOR trainees had the roof done and a
new kitchen addition framed in. They finished the interior during the
winter. See more pictures---> Community Projects-Albion I am happy to share with you how thrilled I am with the work being done there. The workers have been not only efficient, but very polite. It is wonderful to watch the interaction between them and Mary [homeowner] as they work on the house. She has been very excited about the work being done and often will just sit in her chair and watch the men work. The quality of work has met or exceeded the high standards required by our program. There have not been any items that have had to be re-done to meet our construction standards. Jody Sperry, Housing Rehabilitation Specialist Meadville Redevelopment Authority |

The OOR program has proven to be an in-valuable service to non-profit organizations and citizens of Central and Western Pennsylvania. I’ve been a strong supporter since OOR’s beginnings at SCI Greensburg in the early 1970’s and for thirty years have witnessed its positive effects. It’s been a winner for all concerned-the DOC, taxpayers and inmates. William J. Wolfe, Superintendent SCI Albion
