Princess Joins
the CReW
(Continued from page 1)

Above, it might not look like
it, but Princess is working. It is her job to learn
to stay to the side, getting up only if she is given a command by her trainer.
|
OOR Cambridge Springs got more a bonus
recently when anew trainee joined the crew. She brought royalty with
her, in the form of “Princess,” a canine member of the Prison Pup
Program. The first Pennsylvania prison tohave this program, SCI
Cambridge Springs selects inmates to raise puppies provided by
Canine Partners for Life, a non-profit organization located in
Cochranville, PA. |
Inmates are taught proper dog-training
techniques and then give the puppies general obedience training
during the first year of life. Once the puppy successfully graduates
from this step he or she receives specialized training and
eventually becomes a Handicapped Assistant dog. These dogs are
placed with disabled persons who rely on them to lead a normal life.

From the Mailbox...
Dear Superintendent
Good: This letter is to thank you, your staff and the workers [OOR
Cresson crew, Instructor Dave Sharp, Instructor Aide Tom Lumadue ] that
completed a roofing job on my home in Altoona. Your staff and the
workers were highly professional, courteous and exhibited a great deal
of technical expertise. I am very pleased with the quality of the work.
I was in the construction trade before I became disabled and appreciate
a job that has been done well. This job definitely meets this criteria.
Again, thank you for a wonderful job and hopefully this program will
continue to help people like me and the work force that you are
training.
