OOR, The Goodwill Ambassadors of SCI-Albion
by Marilyn Stewart Brooks, Superintendent, SCI-Albion

10745 Route 18, Albion, is more than an address; it is a community within a community.  my belief is that the Department of Corrections is a neighbor to the townships and villages that surround us.  It is our duty to be a good neighbor and support our surrounding communities.

Each day the OOR crew leaves the facility to do work what may have gone undone for years.  Often, the project would never have been undertaken due to financial limitations.

OOR provides a vital link to the public, demonstrating the commitment of corrections to support our neighboring municipalities.

The other equal benefit is the skill development that the inmate crews receive.  Statistics bear our that inmates with marketable skills are less likely to return to prison.  It is uplifting to speak with the men who work on the OOR crew.  They are excited to go out each day, learn new trades and have the work they accomplish valued.

OOR at SCI-Albion is a vital extension of our institution.  I appreciate the dedication of the staff and how enthusiastic they are with regard to their dedication to our mutual success.

Sean McDonald acclimated himself to OOR's daily routine very quickly.  He was my idea of a model trainee.  A quick study, he readily grasped new techniques.  He was very conscious of the quality of his work and the time frame in which he completed his tasks.

Prior to entering CReW in August 2003, Mr. McDonald had earned exceptional performance scores from Tony Lorance, SCI-Albion HVAC instructor.

Mr. McDonald said that he felt privileged to participate in OOR and to have been instructed by Travis Black, who taught him technical skills and the importance of a good work ethic.
