New CReWs Go To Work____________

The CReW at OOR Cambridge Springs completed its first project since program start-up at the women’s prison last spring. The Washington Township supervisors requested improvements at Peninsula Park in Edinboro.

The CReW, instructor Rich Markiewicz and instructor aide Paul Holder worked on the Peninsula Park project, which included forming, pouring and finishing 200 feet of sidewalk and cement pads for two 20' x 30' picnic pavilions. Abe Izzo, Masonry instructor from OOR Mercer, spent a number of days at the site, consulting and helping with supervision. All facets of the work were made handicap accessible.

OOR Albion improved the lives of two Erie area residents by building a wheelchair ramp at one home and new steps with railing at another. The work was requested by Chris Finegan, Director of Community Resources for Independent Living, which supplied the materials. Albion Borough Park was the setting for another OOR Albion project. Instructor Aide Travis Black supervised the installation of a new roof on an enclosed picnic pavilion (The work in progress is pictured at right.) Jack Hinkson, OOR Mercer Carpentry instructor, gave technical assistance at the site. The CReW and instructor Tim Moore are now at work on an extensive renovation for a homeowner in Saegertown. They will reframe the existing roof and install a new roofing system; install windows and siding; remove and rebuild some interior walls and install a new kitchen.

Federal HOME dollars administered by the Crawford County Planning Office make this project possible.
